Melbourne Business School is launching the Online MBA

The home of Australia’s top-ranked MBA is about to become more flexible and accessible with the launch of a new destination for online learning.

Australia’s premier business school will this month launch Melbourne Business School Online, a new destination for business short courses as well as an online MBA.

"We are thrilled to offer ambitious individuals greater access to Australia's leading business school in the form of a flexible, innovative and inclusive online experience," said Dr Nora Koslowski, Chief Learning Innovation Officer at Melbourne Business School.

Through Melbourne Business School Online, the School will deliver its part-time MBA program in an online format for the first time, making it more accessible to students from a diverse range of locations, professions and backgrounds.

Professor Caron Beaton-Wells, Dean, Internal of Melbourne Business School, said: “The launch of Melbourne Business School Online advances our purpose of unleashing ideas and leaders for a sustainable future by making the Melbourne Business School experience more accessible.

"Our goal is to offer the finest business management education and learning experience in Australia to more people, from more walks of life, than ever before.”

Part-time degree programs available through Melbourne Business School Online will include the Online MBA, an Online Graduate Diploma in Business Administration, an Online Graduate Certificate in Business Administration and an Online Professional Certificate in Business Administration.

Students will be able to join the Online MBA through six class intakes per year and study in a flexible format designed to fit their schedule, developed by the School’s world-class faculty. They will also be able to expand their connections through in-person networking events with other students, alumni and industry leaders.

“Melbourne Business School Online combines the experience of studying at Australia's most prestigious business school with an intuitive online program that lets busy professionals learn on their own terms,” Dr Koslowski said.

“The programs are co-designed with industry to offer practical, future-ready skills while giving students a chance to network with leading academics, like-minded peers and renowned industry experts from all over the world.”

Melbourne Business School Online will also offer a range of premium online short courses designed to boost students’ skills in leadership, finance, marketing and other areas.

Online short courses available at launch include the MBS Leadership Program, New Leader Development Program, Finance for Non-Financial Managers and Digital Marketing Strategy. Each short course takes 4 to 6 weeks to complete and requires about 5 hours of coursework each week.

“Our online short courses are co-designed with industry partners specifically for working professionals who juggle competing priorities. They’re designed to be practical and future-focused to help students get ahead in their careers and stand out in a competitive job market,” said Dr Koslowski.

The launch of Melbourne Business School Online takes place as demand for flexible and inclusive work and education accelerates.

Australia has seen the number of online courses for professional development and upskilling nearly triple from 19 percent in 2016-17 to 55 percent in 2020-21 after extensive COVID-19 lockdowns, according to March 2022 data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Online short courses have risen as the unlikely hero as employers continue to work through an economic environment that has seen both a skills shortage and increased employee demand for flexible working and learning.

Dr Koslowski said Melbourne Business School Online’s degree programs and short courses were designed for busy professionals, career changers and aspiring business leaders whose life commitments preclude them from attending on-campus studies.

“We want to give more people the chance to experience Melbourne Business School in a way that works for them. Whether you’re an expat living overseas, a shift worker or a small-business owner, you can still upskill and connect with like-minded professionals without having to be on campus,” Dr Koslowski said.

Melbourne Business School is the University of Melbourne’s graduate school in business and economics.

Its degrees and short courses are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) and are ranked among the best in the world by Financial Times, QS and Times Higher Education.

In 2022, Melbourne Business School's Full-time MBA program was ranked #1 in Australia by both Financial Times and QS.

Melbourne Business School Online is an initiative of Melbourne Business School Ltd, which delivers its MBA and other award courses on behalf of the University.
