Recruitment season starts early at Melbourne Business School

Summer is open season in Melbourne, and not just for tennis fans. January to March at Melbourne Business School is peak recruitment time, which began early for one MBA student, recruited to the Commonwealth Bank’s leadership program in December, just months after his studies began.

“It’s our earliest recruitment on record,” Career Management Centre Director John Gurskey said, “and shows just how strong the demand is for our quality students, especially from top-level companies.”

Louie Tsang (MBA 2017) will join Australia’s largest bank in May, well before he completes his one-year MBA in August. During February’s MBA Recruitment Month, his full-time cohort – who boast an internationally impressive 705 GMAT average – and our MBA part-timers will hear pitches from McKinsey, Bain, Boston Consulting, KPMG and Deloitte and other regular recruiters of our graduates.

They’ll also be joined by another bank, Citi, with alumnus Ross Barrows, Head of Small Caps Research, keen to tap into our talent pipeline to fill an internship position at the US bank’s Melbourne office.

Addressing our MBA students, AT Kearney Partner and Melbourne Business School alumnus Scott Glover said his global consulting firm needs people who are smart, curious and team players.

"We're looking for people who can help and empower clients through consulting projects that have a sustainable impact on their business."

This year, word of our graduates’ ability to think differently has spread to several emerging and established players in the digital space, including online temporary hire company Sidekicker, cloud-based business solutions firm Biarri and the local arm of German software giant Software AG.

Other employers lining up to hire over the next few months and throughout the year include Microsoft, Intel, Qantas, BHP, Medibank, NAB, ANZ, Disney Australia and diesel-engine manufacturer Cummins.
