Janelle Hopkins joins Board of Melbourne Business School
One of Australia's top CFOs hopes to leverage her experience in technology to help Melbourne Business School adapt to the future of business education.
Janelle Hopkins is the Chief Financial Officer of REA Group and was last year named the top CFO in Australia according to MarketMeter's Institutional Investor Scorecard, which ranked ASX 200 CFOs according to the value they delivered in the first half of 2022.
Prior to that, Janelle was also the Group CFO of Australia Post for five years and the first female Chairman of the Group of 100, Australia's peak body for CFOs and senior finance executives from public and private sectors.
This month, she will become the third new member to join the Board of Melbourne Business School, following the appointment of Rebecca McGrath and Brooke Miller.
"I think my experience as a Chief Financial Officer will provide important insights into the decision making and strategic planning of the School," Janelle says.
"I have worked across several different industries and for businesses in various stages of maturity. I currently work for a fast growing digital and technology business and am excited to share my insights with the Board and management team.
"Ultimately, I hope to positively impact the next generation of leaders in the business world."
As an MBA graduate from the Australian Graduate School of Management at UNSW, Janelle is a strong believer in continuing education and lifelong learning. She also holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
In her new role with Melbourne Business School, Janelle is most excited about imparting her experience to a new generation of learners whose needs are rapidly changing.
"The School is a leader in executive programs and education and has a willingness to evolve as the future of education changes rapidly," she says.
"I wanted to work with the best and brightest people in Australia and I believe from my knowledge of the School and its talented faculty that they have that."
Ross Barker, Chairman of Melbourne Business School, said: "Janelle Hopkins is one of Australia's most respected CFOs who has demonstrated her commitment to ethical financing, and we are proud to welcome her to the Board. Her expertise is crucial in helping the School ensure long-term financial sustainability even as it transforms itself to adapt to changing learner needs."
Prior to joining Australia Post in 2012, Janelle held several senior finance positions at National Australia Bank. Before moving into banking, Janelle began her career in the audit division of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, where she spent eight years auditing financial services firms from its offices in Sydney, Brisbane and Canada.
