When you graduate with honours in English literature in a country leading the world in book reading, you must be exceptional. And when you move from city to city as a child because your parents work with the Indian Embassy, your eyes open to the world

Full-time MBA 2014

Indian national Isha Chander came to Melbourne Business School to study her MBA after working with global analytics company Evalueserve in London, where she spent five years as a marketing manager.

Thanks to her MBA and after a one year stint at PwC Singapore, she is now back in London leading marketing, communications and business development for the financial services arm of international law firm Addleshaw Goddard and managing the firm’s fintech legal incubator, AG Elevate, a career highlight for her.

“The MBA gave me the ability to analyse problems and think strategically in a completely different way. I now realise solutions are never straightforward and that you can't predict outcomes. But if you stick to best business practice, you have a better chance of getting the desired outcome.”

When Isha arrived at Melbourne Business School, she found the syndicate work invaluable for building relationships with her cohort and sharing in ‘the good, the bad and the ugly’ as they solved case studies together.

“Given the bell curve grading system, you would expect everyone to be competitive, but, instead, they were supportive. We had great camaraderie in class and enjoyed every discussion. We still stay in touch.”

Through the School’s club events, Isha connected with industry players and secured an internship at Coles, where she met the supermarket giant’s Marketing Director – an exciting moment for someone with her passion for marketing.

“The on-the-job training was gold, but I also value classroom education. I love marketing, strategy and brand, and with such professors as Don O'Sullivan and Mark Ritson, Melbourne Business School was an obvious choice. I particularly enjoyed my Marketing Strategy elective with Ujwal Kayande, who brought an energy into class that few professors can.”

But Isha reserves her highest praise for her cohort and the support she received from the School.

“As much as you learn from professors, you learn so much from the sheer diversity of your classmates too. Plus, the careers and alumni teams are fantastic. You just get so much support at School and after graduation.”

Isha plans to return to India one day but is happy her study and career have already taken her from one side of the world to the other, and back again.

“It was tough leaving my friends in London behind, but I made a whole new family in Melbourne, which is an easy place to live, and the coffee and food are great – what more do you want?”
