Indigenous masterclass program wins award
Melbourne Business School’s MURRA Indigenous Business Masterclass program has been awarded the ‘Excellence in Business Education Collaboration Award’ from the Business/Higher Education Roundtable (B/HERT).
The award, presented at a gala dinner held in Melbourne on November 15, is sponsored by CPA Australia and the Australian Business Deans Council aims to recognise collaboration between sectors.
The MURRA Indigenous Business Masterclass which was designed and continues to be delivered through the Asia Pacific Social Impact Centre (APSIC) is the first postgraduate executive education program designed for Indigenous managers and entrepreneurs.
The program was built on the idea that the growth of Indigenous owned and operated enterprises not only enhances community economic outcomes but also fosters innovation, strengthens cultural heritage and creates a platform for leadership development within the Indigenous community.

Professor Ian Williamson, Helen Macpherson Smith Chair in Social Impact and Co-director of the APSIC said the School was honoured to be recognised by B/HERT for the program.
“This would not have been possible without the support of the Melbourne Business School community including our faculty and support staff, and our generous sponsors,” said Professor Williamson.
“The award recognises collaboration and this program was designed in consultation with the Indigenous community. This award also belongs to our 90 alumni and Indigenous entrepreneurs who allow us insights into their own educational and entrepreneurial journeys and generously contribute to our research in Indigenous leadership, who celebrate the successes of their classmates, and who continue to champion us long after they have finished the program. I couldn’t be prouder of the APSIC team.”
The vision for the MURRA program remains the same – to upskill Indigenous professionals in postgraduate business education to build capabilities and stronger Indigenous business while creating positive economic outcomes for families and communities.
Applications are now open for the next MURRA program, which will start in March 2017 with support from generous sponsors of the program include BP Australia, Supply Nation, Kinaway Victorian Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce, Global Forwarding, Ian Kirk (MBS alum) and the Melbourne Business School Senior Executive MBA Class of 2003.
