Hear from Associate Professor Jamie Cross and an expert panel on how the global conflict is impacting Australia’s economy.

In our recent Alumni Evenings event, Melbourne Business School Associate Professor Jamie Cross was joined by an expert panel of alumni to discuss the macroeconomic and policy implications of the current global tensions and how Australian businesses are responding.

In his keynote,  Associate Professor Cross first examined how escalating geopolitical tensions, energy security, and trade disruptions are reshaping Australia's economic outlook. Jamie explored the impact of conflict in the Middle East on global oil and fuel supplies, Australia's reliance on imported fuel and fertiliser, the flow-on effects for inflation, supply chains and food security, and the difficult policy choices facing governments and the Reserve Bank.

He also discussed how uncertainty influences business investment, consumer confidence and economic growth, before outlining the potential risks and opportunities for Australia in the months ahead.

Following Jamie's keynote, the audience heard from an expert panel featuring Michael Baker (MBA 2014), General Manager, Australia-New Zealand Midstream Infrastructure at BP, Pina Palumbieri (Executive MBA 2018), Chief Operating Officer at Dairy Australia, and Hiti Taluja (Executive MBA 2018), commodities trading and supply chain strategist, who brought practical industry perspectives to these challenges.

Drawing on their experience across agriculture, energy and supply chains, the panel explored how businesses are responding to global disruption, strengthening resilience, managing fuel and fertiliser security, and preparing for an increasingly uncertain economic and geopolitical environment.
