AACSB announced today that they have extended the business accreditation of the degree programs of Melbourne Business School (the School) and the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne (the University).

AACSB is one of the world’s most respected peer-review bodies, and this recent extension marks 15 years of the University receiving the business accreditation.

The announcement comes following an in-depth peer review visit from the AACSB earlier this year, in which the University’s business offering was measured against nine rigorous standards, spanning everything from faculty qualifications and research impact to student outcomes, societal contribution, and strategic direction.

Professor Serge da Motta Veiga, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne, said the accreditation, which is reassessed every five years, provides an important opportunity to ensure the University is continually improving and accelerating their impact.

"AACSB accreditation is not a requirement for universities, but it is a standard we proudly pursue as it reflects our ambition to be among the world's leading institutions,” Professor da Motta Veiga said.

“It represents our commitment to continuously raising the bar in teaching, research and engagement, and to creating an environment where outstanding students and academics can thrive.

“Together with Melbourne Business School, this extension reinforces our place among a leading group of universities worldwide and most importantly, ensures our students benefit from a globally recognised education that empowers them to make a meaningful impact on business and society."

Professor Jenny George, Dean of Melbourne Business School, echoed this sentiment.

“We are facing a rapidly shifting global environment. The accreditation process ensures we are meeting the changing workforce demands and developing leaders who have the resilience to create sustainable impact when faced with profound economic, technological and societal change,” Professor George said.

Professor George commended the Faculty, staff and entire community on their efforts in obtaining this endorsement.

“Achieving AACSB accreditation is a laborious, years-long process in which we must demonstrate that we are consistently achieving international best practice,” Professor George said.

“These results are due to the exceptional standard our research, education, industry and community partnerships, management and operations, and ultimately a recognition of the high calibre of our Faculty and staff.”
