MBA Scholarships Building the Capability and Capacity of the Not-For-Profit Sector

Melbourne Business School is committed to helping more people to re imagine their potential and use business acumen and capabilities to address critical challenges in their communities.

We want the MBA program to be accessible to talented individuals with ambition and passion. This means removing, as much as possible, the financial barrier that sometimes exists for people working in the not-for-profit (NFP) sector.

The not-for-profit sector encompasses a diverse range of organisations including health, social services, education, sport and recreation, arts and culture, environment, animal welfare, and human rights. Such organisations play a vital role in creating an inclusive, healthy, vibrant society. While these for-purpose organisations have innate strengths in addressing the needs of their communities, they need help in building their capability and capacity. Business strategy, financial literacy, marketing and people management are part of an essential skill set that not-for-profit leaders need.

The School is encouraging people who work in the NFP sector to apply for two generous scholarships to support their MBA studies.

There are two scholarships available for those in the NFP sector, one open to those considering full-time study and one to potential candidates interested in part-time study.

The Harold Campbell-Pretty Scholarship

Always great admirers of the School, Harold and Krystyna Campbell-Pretty rank among our most generous and loyal donors as Lifetime Patrons of the Dean’s Circle. The Campbell-Prettys both come from humble beginnings, which is why Harold’s wife Krystyna is so pleased to be supporting a sector where people often can’t afford to consider studying an MBA.

“The sector is of increasing importance in today’s disparate world,” Krystyna says, “and any organisation within it will benefit from the skills that a high-calibre management education can bring.”

Established in 2016 by Krystyna, the Harold Campbell-Pretty Scholarship seeks to develop corporate-standard leadership and management practices in a sector that is critical for our social, cultural and economic development.

This Scholarship provides full tuition fees and a living stipend to a full-time MBA candidate with financial need who has worked or has a demonstrated desire to work in the NFP sector.

The SEMBA Class of 2003 Scholarship

Another generous scholarship comes from the endowment established by the Senior Executive MBA Class of 2003. To mark their 5th anniversary, the SEMBA Class of 2003 gave a gift of $500,000 to Melbourne Business School to create a perpetual Endowment to support students at Melbourne Business School who have the potential to make significant social impact in underprivileged communities and the NFP sector.

This Scholarship provides $50,000 towards tuition fees to a part-time MBA candidate who currently works in the NFP sector.
