You're Invited!

We invite you to join us for a one-hour hybrid session with visiting Fellow Professor Sotiris Vandoros from University College London titled: Uncertainty and Health: Navigating the Health Impacts of Economic Turbulence.

The discussion will focus on how previous research has shown that recessions and unemployment influence various health outcomes.

While much of the literature examines the effects of realized economic developments - such as job loss or income decline - growing evidence highlights economic uncertainty as a distinct factor affecting health. In an era of heightened global volatility, he will explore how uncertainty about employment and financial security may have significant health consequences. Economic uncertainty, including the anticipation of job loss or financial hardship, can influence health and health behaviours. It has been linked to adverse mental health outcomes, increased cardiovascular risk, and even higher rates of car crashes. He will also discuss how major uncertainty shocks at the national level can trigger similar effects.

Understanding the broader health consequences of economic uncertainty is essential for developing policies that protect vulnerable populations during periods of economic turbulence.
