Melbourne Business School's Centre for Business Analytics was pleased to welcome Steve Metz, VP of Analytics & Insights at eBay (USA) to Melbourne Business School on Thursday 30 April 2020.
Steve Metz is VP of Analytics & Insights at eBay, an eCommerce company based in San Jose, California. In 2019, eBay had $11B in revenue, $90B in Gross Merchandise Value, and 183 million active buyers. Steve rejoined eBay in 2019 to oversee analytics for the Product and Marketing organization. He previously held positions with eBay in Finance and Analytics from 2005 through 2016. From 2016 through 2019, he served as Finance Director for Amazon’s Performance Advertising business, overseeing advertising products including from Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, and Stores. In his 15 years working for these technology companies in eCommerce and digital advertising, the common thread across his roles has been continually finding ways to leverage data, metrics, and insights to drive improved decision-making and better outcomes for customers and businesses.
Steve discussed the key elements that come together for analytics to be successful in driving customer and business outcomes. He drew from real-world examples encountered during his 15 years working in Technology at eBay and Amazon and focused on the importance of linking data, analytics, and metrics to business strategy, as well as sharing perspectives on best practices for linking these elements together.
