Economics for the 21st Century
21st-century economic theories are shifting away from pure neoclassical models to address inequality, climate change, and financial volatility.
Key emerging approaches include Doughnut Economics (balancing human needs with planetary boundaries), Modern Money Theory (MMT), behavourial economics, and post-growth models. These theories prioritise sustainability and social welfare over simple GDP growth.
Our guest speaker is Alan Langford, former Bankwest Chief Economist, Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Business and Law, at Curtin University and member of the advisory panel for the economics discipline. Alan is also Treasurer and board member, Developmental Disability WA, and foundation member of D-Dads who are a network of fathers of children living with a disability.
Come and hear about the relevance of economics in solving modern societies challenges and engage in the discussion on topics that concern us all on a personal and business level.
Please RSVP no later than Tuesday 17th March 2026.
The WA Chapter Committee is Craig Hook (MBA 1997), Kristy Porter (SEMBA 2021), Vid Kadiresan (EMBA 2024), and Laura Atkinson (MBA 2025).
A big thanks to Kristy Porter at BDO for hosting our events in 2026.
