ESOBE 2025: the European Seminar on Bayesian Econometrics (26-27 August 2025)
ESOBE has been the premier European conference on Bayesian econometrics since its inception in 2010. It attracts international experts working in Bayesian statistical methodology and its applications in macro-econometrics, micro-econometrics, and finance. More information about past editions of ESOBE can be found on the European Seminar on Bayesian Econometrics website.
In 2025 it will be relocating to the University of Melbourne in Australia. It will follow on from the 2025 World Congress, (in Seoul on August 18-22), and precede a sister Bayesian Macroeconometrics workshop at the University of Queensland (August 30 – 1 Sept).
A link to the macroeconometrics workshop at University of Queensland, along with separate paper submission and registration can be found here.

Visitor Information
Conference Location
The conference will be held at the Woodward Conference Centre on the University of Melbourne’s main Carlton campus. This is located on the 10th floor of the Law Building at 185 Pelham Street, Carlton. It has magnificent views across the city of Melbourne and is easily accessible from the city centre (called locally the CBD) by either a 15-minute walk, or a short tram or uber/taxi trip.
About the University of Melbourne
The University of Melbourne, founded in 1853, is one of Australia’s leading universities, known for its world-class research, teaching, and heritage campus. Located near the centre of the city of Melbourne, it offers a blend of historic architecture, modern facilities, and cultural attractions like the Ian Potter Museum of Art.
About the City of Melbourne
Melbourne is a multicultural city of five million residents. It is known for its lively arts scene, excellent galleries and museums, world-class dining, and love of sports. As the capital of Victoria, it blends historic architecture with modern skyscrapers, nestled along the Yarra River. Visitors can explore its famous laneways, bustling markets, and green spaces like the Royal Botanic Gardens. With a temperate climate and a packed calendar of events, Melbourne offers something for everyone year-round.
Both the state of Victoria, and its capital Melbourne, are leading international tourist destinations. Information for tourists can be found at www.visitvictoria.com and www.visitmelbourne.com/regions/melbourne.
Accommodation
Melbourne has many hotel and other accommodation options for travellers on all budgets. August is the end of Melbourne’s mild winter and is usually a period where good deals on accommodation can be found. Bookings are usually made either directly through hotel websites or through global booking sites.
Transportation
Melbourne’s international airport is called Tullamarine Airport (coded as MEL on baggage). It is located on the outskirts of the city, and to connect to the city centre is an approximately thirty-minute trip. Options include a bus (called Skybus Express), uber ride share, taxis or chauffeured town car. All of these options can be arranged in the airport on arrival.
Tullermaine Airport is both a major international and domestic hub. Direct flights to Brisbane (the location of the University of Queensland workshop) leave throughout the day. The two domestic airlines in Australia are QANTAS and Virgin, and flights can be either be booked directly with the airlines, or via your local travel agent.
Visas
All international visitors (other than New Zealand citizens) have to apply for a visa to enter Australia. For most short visit and tourism visitors these are fast and easy to obtain online.
