Melbourne Business School is proud to announce registrations for the Class of 2023 ‘Graduation Celebrations’ is now open.

This special day is dedicated to honouring your hard work and achievements in a celebration spread across one week and three events! The Valedictory Dinner will run from 6.30pm to 10pm, Thursday 19 October 2023. The Graduation Formal Celebration will run from 9.30am to 12pm and the Graduation Long Lunch will run from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, Saturday 21 October 2023.

Bringing you three special events across one week!

The week will begin with your Valedictory Dinner at the historical Ormond College. This event will provide you the opportunity to celebrate with your classmates and faculty in a formal dinner setting.

On the Saturday, the day will begin with your Graduation Formal Celebration at the iconic Melbourne Town Hall. This formal event includes a traditional procession where you will receive your well-deserved recognition in front of family and friends.

Following the Formal Celebration on Saturday afternoon, the Graduation Long Lunch is the final event and is a fully catered celebration hosted at The Commons Collective. It provides an opportunity for graduates, friends, and family to come together.

Tennealle O'Shannessy

Tennealle O'Shannessy

Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, IDP

Tennealle has more than twenty-five years professional experience, in online education, employment platforms and e-commerce businesses. Earlier in her career, Tennealle was a consultant with global tier-one management consulting firm Kearney. Tennealle then spent almost ten years with SEEK, where she held the role of Managing Director – Americas. Tennealle moved to be the CEO of online beauty retailer, Adore Beauty where she led the company’s listing on the ASX in 2020, before joining IDP in February this year. A mother to three young children, Tennealle has a lifelong passion for learning. Tennealle has an MBA (Deans List) from Melbourne Business School, holds a Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Monash University, is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and was awarded the Chief Executive Women Scholarship by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Valedictory Dinner - Ormond College

When: Thursday, 19 October 2023, 6.30pm – 10.00pm

Where: Ormond College, 49 College Cres, Parkville, VIC 3052.

This is a night just for students from the class of 2023, filled with welcome drinks, canapes, a two-course dinner, student awards, and time to enjoy with your cohort and faculty.

Graduation Formal Celebration - Melbourne Town Hall

When: Saturday, 21 October 2023, 9.30am – 12.00pm*

*Graduates can arrive from 7.30am, guests from 8.15am. Doors close at 9.15am.

Where: Melbourne Town Hall, 90-130 Swanston St, Melbourne VIC 3000 (corner of Swanston and Collins streets).

Melbourne Town Hall is a grand venue and the traditional one to officially celebrate our graduating students hard-earned degree from Melbourne Business School and the University of Melbourne. It’s a short tram ride along Swanston Street and St Kilda Road to the Garden Party venue.

Graduation Long Lunch - The Commons Collective

When: Saturday, 21 October 2023, 1.30pm – 4.30pm

Where: The Commons Collective, 17 Moubray St, Melbourne VIC 3004 (off St Kilda Road).

Continue the celebrations at The Commons Collective over a long lunch with friends and family. This event has no official formalities but is a chance for you to enjoy to the afternoon as the newest graduates of Melbourne Business School with great food and great company.

What are the exact timings of the Graduation Formal Celebration at Town Hall?

What time should graduates arrive at Melbourne Town Hall? 

Doors open to Graduates at 7.30am, doors close to the main hall at 9.15am. Further details regarding the line-up, gowning and other information will be provided closer to the date.

What time should guests arrive at Melbourne Town Hall? 

Guests can arrive from 8.15am. Doors close at 9.15am.

Where do graduates enter Melbourne Town Hall? 

Graduates enter through the Collins Street entrance.

Where do guests enter Melbourne Town Hall? 

Guests enter through the Swanston Street entrance. Doors open at 8.15am for guests.

Are children able to attend the Graduation Formal Celebration at Melbourne Town Hall?

Children are welcome to attend the Graduation Formal Celebration free of charge, provided they are seated on an adult’s lap for the full duration of the Ceremony.

How many people are expected to attend the Graduation Formal Celebration at Melbourne Town Hall?

We expect up to 1100 people will attend the Graduation Formal Celebration.

Is parking available at the Melbourne Town Hall?

Limited parking is available near the event venues. For your convenience, provided below is information on the closest parking and public transport options:

Public Transport: Nearby train stations are Flinders Street and Melbourne Central, and trams run frequently along both Swanston and Collins Streets. The closest tram stop is Collins St/Swanston St. Tram services to this stop include; 1, 3, 3a, 5, 6, 11, 12, 16, 48, 64, 67, 72, 109.

Do guests have reserved seating? 

No, there are no reserved seats for guests. We suggest guests arrive on time to secure their preferred seat on either the ground floor or the balcony. We do however cater for those with special access requirements.

Will regalia be provided on the day?

Yes, regalia will be provided for all graduates participating in the Graduation Formal Celebration. Regalia can be collected from 7:30am and must be returned by 12:30 on the day.

Can I purchase additional guest tickets to the Graduation Formal Celebration at Melbourne Town Hall? 

A maximum of two guest tickets for the Graduation Formal Celebration are guaranteed (in addition to the graduating student). Extra guest tickets will be subject to availability and will be confirmed closer to the ceremony date. Children who can sit on an adult's lap for the full duration are not included in this number. 

Will there be photography services available?

Silver Rose Studios will be available before and after formalities to provide graduates and their families with professional graduation portraits. Photos will take place in the Swanston Hall.

Degree Presentation Photography - All graduates will be photographed on stage with the Dean.

Photos are available to view and purchase directly after formalities, online.

Will the event be live-streamed? 

Yes, the Graduation Formal Celebration at Melbourne Town Hall will be live-streamed. More details to come.

Do you or any of your guests require additional assistance on the day? 

All graduates and guests with special requirements (e.g., restricted mobility, vision or hearing impairments) who may need assistance during the celebration should contact the events team at events@mbs.edu before the day to discuss their needs. We will ensure that arrangements are in place for you and your guests to enjoy the celebration.

Yes, there will be a Valedictory Dinner. The dinner will be hosted at the historical Ormond College on Thursday 19 October 2023.

Yes, there is a dedicated area in the guest-seating area for parents with prams.

Can I get a refund if I can’t attend?

No, only graduates and guests who have registered and paid can attend.

Valedictory Dinner

What time should graduates arrive at Ormond College? 

Registration begins at 6:30pm. We'll be sharing more details shortly.

Am I able to bring guests to the Valedictory Dinner? 

Unfortunately, due to the capacity of Ormond College, is exclusively for graduates.

How many people are expected to attend the Valedictory Dinner at Ormond College? 

The venue capacity allows for 180 attendees, so you can expect a full house on the night.

Is parking available at Ormond College? 

Parking near Ormond College is limited. The closest parking options can be found here.

Public transport is also a great option with trams frequently running along Royal Parade and Swanston Streets. The nearest tram stop is Gatehouse/Royal Parade, serviced by Tram 19.

Will regalia be provided at the Valedictory Dinner for Graduates to wear? 

Regalia will not be provided for the Valedictory Dinner.

Will there be a photographer at the Valedictory Dinner? 

Yes, there will be a photographer capturing the evening’s magic. We’ll email you a link to the photos after the event.

Do you require additional assistance on the day?

Who can come to the Graduation Long Lunch at The Commons Collective? 

The Graduation Long Lunch is open to all graduates and their guests.

What time should I arrive at the Graduation Long Lunch at The Commons Collective?

The Graduation Long Lunch will be held from 1:30pm - 4:30pm. Feel free to come and go as you please.

Are children allowed to attend the Graduation Long Lunch at The Commons Collective?

Children are welcome to attend the Graduation Long Lunch provided they have a valid ticket. The Graduation Long Lunch will be held at an enclosed hall at the Commons Collective. There are no designated children’s areas available at the venue and children must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
