Frequently Asked Questions

When do I enrol?

Online enrolments will open closer to commencement of your program. You will receive enrolment instructions once we have processed your acceptance into the program.

Can I defer my offer?

Unfortunately, deferrals are not permitted for this program. For further advice, please contact the Admissions team via study@mbs.edu.

What if I need a refund on my fees?

Applicants who are unable to commence the program are required to provide written notice written notice to the Admissions team via study@mbs.edu.

How do I pay any remaining tuition fees?

The balance of the remaining program fee is payable directly to The University of Melbourne over the duration of the program as per the payment schedule. You can find more information on payment due dates on the University of Melbourne Fees FAQ page. You will receive a 'Statement of Liability' from the University of Melbourne which will provide an account of any outstanding fees and/or the tuition fees due for the next period. Payment details will also be provided on the Statement of Liability. The first Statement of Liability will be generated once you complete online enrolment.

What is a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)?

A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is an official document issued by education providers to verify an applicant's eligibility to enrol in a specified course. A CoE is required for the purpose of applying for a student visa and contains information regarding your program, the estimated cost and the duration of your study.

In order to receive a CoE for the purpose of applying for a student visa, you must provide:

  • the country and city in which you will be applying for your student visa
  • your passport number
Please note that CoEs are only required if you are intending to apply for a student visa. If you intend to study while holding another temporary visa, it is your responsibility to ensure that this visa allows you to study in Australia. You must provide details of the visa type and subclass and attach a copy of this visa to your acceptance form.

It is essential that you inform us immediately if this information changes.

What is Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS)?

Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) is a legal framework that sets the requirements and standards for the delivery of education and protects the rights of international students studying in Australia on a student visa.

Do I have to pay for Overseas Student Health Cover?

The Australian Government requires that international students have compulsory health insurance for the proposed duration of their student visas. Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) covers you for general health and hospital care in Australia.

You will need to purchase OSHC to cover you and any dependents (spouses and children under 18 years old) from when you arrive in Australia and for the duration of your student visa. And, if you extend the length of your student visa, you must renew your OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover) policy.

I'm an international student, what do I need to do before I arrive?

Find information in the International Student Checklist on everything from starting your studies to transitioning to life in Melbourne.

Do I need a student visa to study in Australia?

Yes. As an international student, you will need a student visa to study in Australia.

Once you have received your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), we suggest that you contact the Australian Embassy or Consulate in your country immediately so that you have an indication of how long visa processing will take in your case, as student visa processing can take several months.

What if Im a citizen of more than one Country?

If you are a citizen of more than one country, please advise your Admissions Consultant the nationality of the passport you intend to travel with to Australia. Should you gain Australian permanent residency or become a citizen of Australia or New Zealand during the course, you must advise MBS Admissions immediately.
