From 2010 – 2012, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) partnered with MBS-Mt Eliza to create Leadership 2.0.
The challenge
The ACMA undertakes its role in an environment that is inherently volatile and ever-changing. There are few industries characterised by such significant and rapid technological change, and also few that operate in as wide-reaching a terrain in terms of citizen and consumer interest as the media and communications industry.
“It is in recognition of this reality that the ACMA pursues its transformational agenda to ensure that we achieve our overarching strategic intent of remaining forever relevant, and a key aspect of meeting this goal relates to the quality and energy of our leadership team.”
Chris Chapman
Chairman, ACMA
The program
This cutting-edge program draws from approaches and methodologies developed by Heifetz, Grashow, Linsky (Adaptive Leadership) and others to create a learning journey in which participants experience new leadership behaviours, rather than merely theorising about them.
The program is driven by reflection, process-driven learning, and workplace application. These approaches are supported by injections of key content at carefully selected points in the journey.
The impact
Results showed that the program improved participants’ self-awareness, and increased their confidence and skills in:
-
- Navigating complexity and ambiguity
- Cross-agency collaboration
- Holding courageous conversations
- Taking up leadership and authority; and
- Empowering others
This was measured by participant evaluations, post-program surveys and organisation observations (by HR and senior managers).
